The project is the first multi-family Climate Choice building in the state and a pioneering effort designed to approach net-zero energy use. Grand Central provides 70 units of affordable housing that utilize several energy efficient technologies, such as a solar photovoltaic system for power, a solar collector system for pre-heating water, exterior and roof insulation, and heat recovery ventilators. As a result, residents at Grand Central have the lowest energy usage of any RPM property. In addition, the landscaping emphasizes drought-resistant plantings and other design features that help decrease water use, along with low-flow fixtures in the units and common areas. More info>

October 2012
Grand Central awarded for “Green Groundbreaking” by NJ Green Building Council
Grand Central has transformed an underutilized downtown site into high-quality affordable housing for low and very low-income households and serves as an anchor for the revitalization of downtown Orange, NJ. Incorporating advanced energy-saving techniques and technologies, Grand Central is designed to be the affordable building with the lowest energy consumption for its size in the state of NJ under the Climate Choice program to encourage energy optimization. More info>

June 2012
Smart Growth Award, NJ Future
NJ Future awarded RPM, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, and the City of Newark the Smart Growth Award for 2012 for the category “Infill Strategies for Adaptive Re-Use”, employed in the Roseville Commons, Studebaker Lofts, and Richardson Lofts projected developed by RPM. More info>

Additional Awards

The local, state, and federal government along with leaders in the affordable housing sector have recognized RPM for developments that have achieved excellence in the areas of historic renovation, neighborhood redevelopment, innovative affordable housing creation, sustainable building, and property management.
