In 2000, RPM transformed a unique but dilapidated industrial structure in Newark into West Side Village, a complex consisting of 129 rental units in two buildings. West Side 1 represents the renovation phase of the project. During the construction process RPM maximized the use of environmentally sustainable building products, representing one of RPM's first forays into green building. Amenities include a day-care center, a community center, a playground, and off-street parking. In 2000, the project was honored with an Excellence in Housing Award for Outstanding Sustainable Housing Development.
